Walsall have completed the permanent signing of Port Vale striker Devante Rodney, who becomes the Saddlers' fourth signing of the January Transfer Window, and joins for an undisclosed fee.

23-year-old Rodney, a product of the Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday youth systems, began his professional career with Hartlepool United, where he made almost fifty first-team appearances over a two-year spell.

Devante joined Salford City in the summer of 2018 and went on to make twenty-seven first-team appearances whilst also enjoying loan spells with FC Halifax Town, where he spent two separate spells, and Stockport County.

The Manchester-born forward then went on to join Port Vale in July 2020, and made sixty-one first-team appearances, scoring thirteen goals.

Devante has put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half year at Banks's Stadium, and adds much-needed strength to the frontline following the recent recall of Huddersfield Town forward Kieran Phillips, although he won't be available for this weekend's meeting with Bristol Rovers.

Speaking via the club's official website, Head Coach Matthew Taylor welcomed his latest signing, he said; "I feel that he gives us an option that we didn’t have with his attributes, and he’s hungry for success.

"He’s the right age and I like what he does on a football pitch. We were alerted to his availability and obviously worked very hard to secure his signature.

"He will add goals and a real attacking intent. He’s a player that understands the game and level really well, and I think that there’s an area on the pitch where we need to better, and he most definitely gives us another option in that area.

"I think also that it’s important that we understand that he’s not the finished article, and therefore it gives us huge opportunities for growth with Devante as well, and I think that’s important to him as well because while we hope and know that he will be a success with us, ultimately we’re signing him and bringing him to the football club to give us a real goal threat and to give us a different option."
