PRE-MATCH NEWS & VIEWS

After seeing their 2022/23 Emirates FA Cup run ended at the Fourth Round stage, Saddlers' attention returns to Sky Bet League Two and Tuesday evening's rearranged meeting with Salford City.

Kelechi Iheanacho's deflected strike saw Premier League Leicester City secure a place in the Fifth Round, with the Boys from the Bescot more than holding their own against much-fancied opposition.

Despite the defeat, which was just the second in some fourteen all-competition outings for the Reds, Head Coach Michael Flynn has many positives to build upon as he looks for his side to continue their steady climb towards the Play-Offs.

Tom Knowles' attacking endeavours, along with Joe Low's body-on-the-line blocks and Owen Evans' brick wall-like showing should be plenty of motivation heading into the clash with the Ammies.

Opponents Salford City were not in FA Cup action at the weekend, their competition ending at the hands of Peterborough United back in November, but they did have to lace up their boots as they faced Crawley Town in League Two.

However, despite netting two goals in the second-half - Ryan Watson and Matthew Lund getting their names on the scoresheet - City slipped to defeat as goals from Dom Telford, Dion Conroy, and Teddy Jenks gave new Red Devils boss Scott Lindsey the perfect start.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Saddlers and Ammies have only met on six previous occasions, and it's Salford who hold an overall head-to-head lead, having won four times compared to Walsall's two.

The first meeting took place at Banks's Stadium on Saturday, 5th October 2019, and saw the visitors ease to victory by three-goal-to-nil as Luke Armstrong, Jake Jervis, and Ibou Touray all hit the back of the net.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting was a League Two clash which took place at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday, 26th March 2022, and saw Salford secure all three points as goals from Matt Smith and Ryan Watson cancel out Rollin Menayese's first-half opener.

MATCH OFFICIALS

The EFL has confirmed that Darren Handley who is based in Lancashire, will be the man in the middle, whilst Matthew Parry and Ian Smedley have been named assistant referees. Peter Wright will act as Fourth Official.
