Young Walsall academy prospects Stan Straw and McLloyd Oben made their senior debuts on Tuesday evening as the Saddlers' faced Shrewsbury Town in the group stage of the Vertu Trophy.Playing a regular part in Ryan Simmonds' Under-18s side, both Straw and Oben came off the bench and played a part in a what was the Saddlers# forty-fifth competitive victory over the Salopians.
Straw replaced an injured Priestley Farquharson just before half-time, whilst Brandon Comley made way for Oben a few minutes after the hour mark, with both players no doubt looking forward to earning more match minutes in the first-team.
The match itself saw the Saddlers open the scoring five minutes into the first-half via Ryan Finnigan, only for Bradley Ihionvien to level for the home side just five minutes later.
Second-half goals from veteran forward Albert Adomah and Deadline Day signing Jid Okeke saw the Saddlers ease to victory, moving to the top of their group in the process.
