As the dust continues to settle upon the recent departure of Head Coach Matthew Taylor, who left the club on the back of a seven-game losing streak, the oddsmakers are still considering who is the favourite to take the helm at Banks's Stadium.

Despite the first-team earning their first win in over sixty days, interim leader Neil McDonald (20/1) and assistant Mat Sadler (33/1) guiding the team to a one-nil triumph over title-chasing Tranmere Rovers, the club is expected to make an appointment from outside the club, with a host of people vying for the job.

Chief among the current candidates is new favourite Michael Flynn. The former Newport County boss is now number one in the bookies eyes, with odds of just 4/7, according to our friends at The Sack Race.

Kidderminster Harriers manager Russ Penn, who is assisted by former Walsall defender Jimmy O'Connor, is second favourite to take charge of the struggling Saddlers, with odds of 7/2 linking his with a move from Aggborough to the Banks's.

Former bookies favourite Dean Holden, who is currently serving as Michael O'Neill's assistant at Championship side Stoke City, has slipped to 6/1 and is joined on those odds by former Carlisle United gaffer Chris Beech.

A whole host of people can be backed at odds of 25/1 with Sol Campbell, Russell Slade, Ian Holloway, Steve Evans, Richie Wellens, John McGreal, John Askey, Warren Joyce, Sam Ricketts and even Dean Keates all considered to be possible candidates to take charge.

Veteran manager Neil Warnock is available at 33/1, with the experienced gaffer joined by the likes of Mick McCarthy, Chris Powell, Paul Ince, Colin Calderwood, Robbie Fowler, Harry Kewell and Marcus Bignot being named as outsiders for a switch to the Saddlers.

Odds correct as of 5.00am Sunday, 13th February 2022. 18+. Be Gamble Aware.
