Walsall have confirmed the signing of FC Halifax Town midfielder Jack Earing, who will join the club on Thursday, 1st July, shortly after his current deal comes to an end.

22-year-old Earing, who joins after the two clubs came to terms on a compensation agreement, has spent two seasons with the National League Shaymen but has turned down a new deal after attracting interest from clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Walsall, who had already secured the signing of Conor Wilkinson, Joss Labadie, and Manny Monthé, were able to overcome the likes of Barrow, Cambridge United, Oldham Athletic, and Swindon Town to get their man.

The Bury-born midfielder is a product of Bolton Wanderers' academy system and, after rising through the ranks at the UoB Stadium, made a handful of appearances for the Trotters, whilst also enjoying a loan spell with Curzon Ashton

After moving to the Shay and spending time on loan with Spennymoor Town and Farsley Celtic, Jack became a regular first-teamer for Halifax during the 2020/21 National League campaign where he netted eight goals in thirty-two appearances helping the Shaymen to a 10th place finish.

Jack has signed a two-year deal and will have to overcome plenty of competition in midfield if he is to secure a starting spot with Liam Kinsella, Labadie, Sam Perry, Alfie Bates, Emmanuel Osadebe, and Joe Willis all battling it out for a place in the side.

Head coach Matt Taylor spoke to club journalists and admitted he was pleased to add another talented player to his squad. He said; "Jack is an exciting young player with lots to prove.

"He is desperate to get better and the type of player we want at the club. He fits our profile, he’s ambitious and that’s what we want.

"There was lots of competition, so for us to be able to mix with the biggest clubs in or division for his signature is another sign of intent from the club.

"He’s an extremely talented attacking footballer and I’m looking forward to working with him."

The transfer is subject to EFL and FA Clearance.
