Darrell Clarke Set For Walsall Exit?

There are breaking media reports of a potential managerial departure in WS1.

Manager Darrell Clarke has reportedly handed in his resignation with the former Salisbury and Bristol Rovers boss set to leave to take up another job.

According to reports, first published by Football Insider, Mansfield-born Clarke did not take training this morning as chairman Leigh Pomlett spoke to players and officials about his impending departure.

Clarke, who led his side to a mid-table finish during the curtailed 2019/20 campaign, has seen his team struggle for consistency over recent weeks as the Saddlers sit eleventh in the table, winning just one of their last seven outings.

With clubs such as Bradford City, Northampton Town and his former side Bristol Rovers currently manager-less, Clarke is highly likely to remain in the EFL, although Bristol-based reporter Sam Frost recently denied reports linking him with a return to the Memorial Stadium.

Meanwhile, Walsall FC are likely to install a caretaker, possibly current player/ coach Mat Sadler, to take charge in the interim as the search begins for a new manager.
