Whitney Confirms Walsall's Interest in Reading 'Keeper Jonathan Bond

As reported earlier this week, Walsall are keen to take a look at the 24-year-old 'keeper as they seek to fill the void left by Neil Etheridge, who will be joining Cardiff City later this summer.
Saddlers boss Jon Whitney has spoken to members of the local press and confirmed that, as reported in our recent Rumour Mill update, he is interested in Reading goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, but admitted that the young stopper is just one of a growing list of options.

Speaking via the Walsall Advertiser, Jon said; "Jonathan is one we were looking at last year as well so we have kept tabs on him. But Neil Cutler has probably got a dozen young keepers on his list. They have to fit into the profile of Richard O'Donnell and Neil Etheridge. They have to be 'coachable', we call it.

"They have to have a really good work ethic and they have to be somebody we can really push on and develop because, for me, Neil Cutler is the best goalkeeping coach I have ever worked with and one of the best I have seen.

"And anyone who comes in is very lucky to have Neil as not only a coach but as a mentor. He develops them on and off the pitch to become a really robust and resilient goalkeeper.

"We've had lots of people offered to us but some of them haven't quite got the credentials to come and work with Neil and come and work at Walsall. Jonathan is one that we have earmarked and he is on the list – but there are several on the list."
