Former Walsall striker Danny Johnson has completed a free transfer to Enterprise National League side Hartlepool United.32-year-old Johnson scored eight goals across thirty first-team appearances last season, but struggled to secure a place in the starting XI.
After an initial loan spell from Mansfield Town saw him score fifteen goals across thirty games, Johnson joined the Saddlers on a permanent basis in June 2023, but has failed to recapture that form.
In his first season as a full-time Saddler, DJ netted just six goals in twenty-eight games, as he and his teammates limped to another mid-table finish.
And this season has been one of frustration as, after missing the opening month through illness and injury, he failed to secure a place in the starting XI, often to the bewilderment of the fans.
