Following Saturday afternoon's Sky Bet League 1 draw with Oldham Athletic, Walsall attacking midfielder Romaine Sawyers has spoken to the club's official website and discussed is spectacular opening day goal.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Romaine said; “It was a good start to the new season. We were unfortunate not to take all three points because we were in a commanding position for long periods of the game. With a new formation I think we showed we can score a lot of goals.

“For me personally, it’s one closer to the target I’ve set with the gaffer. I’m not going to reveal that target but when I reach it I’ll remind you about it.

“Nine times out of ten I think the keeper expects you to go across goal. So he took one step and his bodyweight didn’t allow him to get back across goal and thankfully it ended up in the top corner. I had enough time to think through the finish so I’m glad it came off."
