Walsall manager Dean SMith has spoken to the press ahead of tomorrow's Sky Bet League One clash with Fleetwood Town, and has discussed the clubs current lack of goals, especially from those called upon during Tom Bradshaw's recent injury spells.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; “I signed Jordan Cook as a forward but he has had two games up there because of the form of Tom Bradshaw.

“He was outstanding against Crawley, our performance was outstanding and we just needed a goal. He played up front against Oldham and scored and could have had a couple more. There are certainly goals in him.

“Mathieu scored at Rochdale in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and is still a work in progress in terms as where we want him to be.

“Ashley Grimes has been unfortunate not to have been on the scoresheet a number of times.

“Sometimes you have to wait for players to develop and some are later developers than others. You can’t wait forever but we are only 17 games in. If they are not the right people we will go and get somebody in who we feel will be good enough."

In an earlier interview, Dean also spoke about the club's front line still being in it's infancy, and called upon people to allow them time to develop a rapport, he said; “You have to remember we have a new frontline, so to speak, and Tom has hit the ground running quicker than the others.

“It does take time and I just think back to when Will Grigg was here. It took him time, he was getting an awful lot of stick up to November from a section of the supporters and then he went on a goal burst.

“It’s about people understanding each other’s games and getting involved, understanding how we play and converting chances.”
