On Saturday morning, Walsall Football Club's Under 18s side played host to Fleetwood Town in the latest Football League Youth Alliance (North West) fixture of the season.

The Saddlers, who sat second in the table, arrived at the game on the back of a 3-1 away victory over Wrexham, whilst the Fishermen, who were in twelfth place ahead of kick-off, were defeated 1-0 on the road against Burnley during their most recent outing.

The Saddlers defeated their opponents by two goals to nil, with Luke Delaney and Levi Rowley hitting the back of the net before the game had reached the fifteen minute mark, as the Reds continued their push to return to the top of the table.

After the game Fleetwood Town Academy boss Steve Carlin, admitted that he was despondent with the way his players performed, telling fleetwoodtownfc.com; “The boys didn’t turn up. They started very, very slow and Walsall were a strong and physical side who liked to pass the ball around, and on their own home pitch did it quite effectively.

“A couple of the lads had okay games but I thought the whole squad were a little bit dazed by the performance of the Walsall players.”

Walsall's next fixture is away to Accrington Stanley, on Saturday 29th November, whilst Fleetwood continue their preparation for an FA Youth Cup tie, away to Sunderland.
