Mystery surrounds the future of Walsall midfielder Ronan Maher after he was seemingly omitted from the club's confirmed squad list following the close of the summer Transfer Window last week.21-year-old Maher, who missed much of pre-season with an injury, recently returned to the fold when he was an unused substitute for the Saddlers' two-all draw with Crewe Alexandra at the beginning of the month.
A product of the Saddlers' academy after joining the club from West Bromwich Albion in 2016, Maher spent part of last season on loan to Tamworth as he sought to secure first-team football and is often seen as a wasted prospect as he sits on the sidelines in favour of other players.
Published on the EFL's website, the list contains all the names of clubs in the Championship, League One, and League Two's first-team squads, as well as registered Under-21s, with Maher not currently featuring on either list.
Walsall CEO Ben Sadler recently responded to fans' queries on the subject, confirming that Ronan 'wasn’t selected to be included on the squad list', but he has yet to offer further clarification on his status at WS1.
