Walsall to Remain in League Two Following Play-Off Final Defeat

The Saddlers suffered defeat under the arch at Wembley Stadium.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall will spend at least another season in the fourth tier of English football after suffering defeat to AFC Wimbledon in Monday afternoon's Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final.

Going into the game on the back of a duo of Play-Off Semi-Final victories over Chesterfield, the Saddlers were unable to replicate their performances as the Dons won by a goal to nil.

Scoring via Myles Hippolyte in first-half stoppage time, Wimbledon will join League Two champions Doncaster Rovers, second-placed Port Vale and third-placed Bradford City in League One.

Walsall, however, will have to find a way to bounce back from a campaign that saw them sit twelve points clear at the top of the table in the New Year, only to endure a lengthy winless run, ultimately having to settle for a place in the Play-Offs.

With several of the current crop set to be out of contract this summer, head coach Mat Sadler, should he remain with the club, will not only have to rebuild confidence, but large parts of his squad as a whole.
