Graham Biggs and his Walsall Under 18s were back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travelled North to take on Fleetwood Town Under 18s in the EFL Youth Alliance (North West).

Ahead of kick-off the young Saddlers had won twelve of their twenty alliance fixtures, but hadn't been in action since their disappointing 4-1 defeat to Rochdale over a week ago.

Today's match saw the Saddlers stand firm against some early Cod Army pressure before enjoying plenty of the attacking play as Biggs' boys settled into their usual attacking style.

Fleetwood's backline had to be alert to plenty of attacking play as Walsall prodded and probed before finally taking the lead just a few minutes into the second half as the Saddlers made the most of a free-kick with Mitchell Candlin rising highest to head the ball past Harry Turner in the Fleetwood goal.

Walsall almost doubled their lead a couple of minutes later, this time Turner was alert to save as he was given little time to recover from the opening goal.

Fleetwood levelled the scores upon the hour mark as Ben Unsworth headed home foroma corner. The Saddlers a little unlucky to be level after enjoying plenty of the ball over the course of the game.

Both sides continued to create chances as the match opened up but it was the Saddlers who would go into the lead as Cody Fisher tapped the ball home following a cut-back inside the area.

There were no further goals, although both sides did have chances to add to their respective tallies as both 'keepers were kept busy until the final whistle.
