Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the press ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Chesterfield, and has revealed that he and the club have held preliminary talks over a new contract to keep him at Banks's Stadium beyond his current deal.
Smith, who has taken charge of over 250 Saddlers games, said; "We've had preliminary talks and they'll be on-going. I'm happy here and enjoy it and hopefully we can sort something out soon.
"I know people laugh but I've always called us getting to the Championship the 'improbable dream' - the impossible dream is getting to the Premier League.
"The more I see of this group of players the more hope it gives me they can sustain what they're doing at the moment. I've always said I want to be the fourth manager who takes us there."
