UPDATED | Move for Premier League Starlet Breaks Down

Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to Joseph Masi of the Express & Star and given brief updates on the club's search for new recruits ahead of the closure of the 'Transfer Window' early next week.

The manager confirmed that his move for an unnamed Premier League Under 21 player has broken down, but the club still have one player on trial.

Smith also insisted that he hopes to sign players on a permanent basis but did not rule out dipping into the loan market as he hopes to add two players in the not too distant future.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; “That one has fallen through. But I am still looking to get a couple in because I still believe we need to strengthen.

“I would rather permanent signings but the longer you go the harder that gets. But there are a number of players who are out of contract and haven’t got clubs at the moment. We had two here last week – one has gone now but the other is still on trial.
