On Tuesday evening, Walsall Football Club travelled to the County Ground to take on Swindon Town in the latest Sky Bet League 1 fixture of the season. Our latest match report is below.

As the game got underway Walsall almost had an opening chance early on, Tom Bradshaw charged down the 'keeper but gave away a goal kick as the home side were alert to the danger.

Swindon sought to attack early on, a Kasim ball almost allowing Gladwin to get in, the forward just beaten to the ball by O'Donnell.

Michael Cain opened his shooting account for the evening soon after, the attempt not testing the 'keeper.

Adam Chambers dealt well with a threatening attack as he cleared the ball for the opening corner of the game. The flag-kick was cleared by Cain for another.

The second corner came off James O'Connor, who was battling Turnbull for the ball, it was clawed out by O'Donnell, the Saddlers eventually managed to clear the danger.

Swindon soon swept down the pitch again, Byrne finding Gladwin, who released a good effort from distance, which was saved well by the alert Richard O'Donnell.

As a Saddlers attack breaks down, the home side counter and forced the returning Mal Benning to give away another corner.

The flag kick was poor and cleared for a throw-in, the home side retained the ball under much pressure, Walsall keen to attack the space as Swindon looked to dominate.

Sam Mantom was forced into a foul as Purkiss' pass was short, allowing Obika in, he was subsequently felled by Mantom, who seemingly had little choice.

Gladwin took the kick into the area, Byrne was prevented from receiving it as Walsall saw the ball out for a goal kick.

The Saddlers immediately gave the ball back from a short goal-kick, the home side continued to enjoy a good attacking spell. Stephens' eventual shot was sent out of the ground as he seemed to rush his effort, with the defence clamouring to clear.

Michael Cain did well to cut inside from out wide but his side-footed effort was poor and easily saved, a wasted opportunity for the Leicester City man.

Against the run of play, Walsall took the lead after eighteen minutes, Kieron Morris who did well to attack his man and force an opening, sent in a superb effort towards goal, 'keeper Foderingham, who got a hand to the shot, failed to get the ball under control as it went up over his head and over the line.

Swindon won a corner, which was cleared as Walsall advanced up the pitch, captain Adam Chambers, who was playing further forward than normal, sent in a good cross but it fell into open space as no-one chanced upon it.

Soon after, a Hiwula shot was poor and easily saved, as the Saddlers looked to double their lead.

Both sides continued to enjoy spells on the ball, but there was a mid-half lull where there were very few openings, and much midfield play, though Walsall did have the majority of the ball.

With around ten minutes of the half remaining Swindon 'keeper Wes Foderingham reacted well to a strong Bradshaw effort, the striker turning his man after good combination play between Hiwula and Purkiss. The resulting corner was cleared by Kasim.

The home side were awarded a free kick just outside the area, Anton Rodgers won the raffle to take it and went extremely close to levelling the scores, he hit the side netting as Richard O'Donnell scrambled across goal.

As we entered added-on-time Toffolo burst down the wing and, eventually, fed Byrne with a mis-placed cross, the full-back could only blaze his shot well wide of goal as the referee soon called time.

The Saddlers got the second half underway, both sides were unchanged. An early Mal Benning cross/shot in the general direction of Tom Bradshaw was under-powered and easily dealt with.

The Saddlers were awarded a free kick which was taken quickly and given straight back to the opposition, the Saddlers recovered and looked to attack, the home side eventually recovered and forced the ball back to the 'keeper.

A Byrne cross failed to find a team-mate as Walsall cleared. At the other end Sam Mantom found some space and lashed the ball across goal, sadly no-one gambled on the ball and the chance went begging.

The Saddlers extended their lead after fifty-two minutes, Michael Cain's pass towards Manchester City's Jordy Hiwula allowed the attacker to rob Sam Ricketts high up in the Swindon half, he broke free and beat the 'keeper one-on-one.

Swindon made a double change as Rodgers and Toffolo were replaced by Randall and Hylton, a re-think from manager Mark Cooper.

Swindon got back into the game following a poor decision to award a penalty following a sliding challenge, which everyone but the referee saw as fair, by O'Donnell on substitute Hylton, the kick was taken by Gladwin, who slotted home.

The home side looked to level the scores as Randall broke into space and sent a shot over the bar.

Swindon sought to control the pace of the game as Walsall may have allowed the poor refereeing decision to get into their heads.

The home side were awarded a second penalty as Byrne was brought down inside the area. Ben Gladwin stepped up and scored again, Walsall's lead gone within just over ten minutes of the start of the half.

Soon after Swindon made another change as Obika was replaced by Williams.

Walsall looked to break-out from the re-start and won a free kick, just over twenty-yards from goal, Michel Cain stepped up and sent the ball just over the bar, as Foderingham seemed confident of his measurements.

Walsall made a double change as Sam Mantom and Kieron Morris were replaced by Romaine Sawyers and Anthony Forde, Smith looking to energize the Saddlers' attack.

St Kitts and Nevis international Sawyers was immediately involved as he forced Foderingham to give away a corner. The flag-kick was played in by Forde and almost fell for an advanced James O'Connor as Swindon cleared.

Walsall got themselves back into the lead with just over fifteen minutes of the game remaining, a sublime cross from Ben Purkiss found Romaine Sawyers who guided the ball home with ease.

Both sides continued with their high-tempo play, the Saddlers defended a dangerous Town corner, the ball was eventually played in from the wing and cleared out of play.

The home side were awarded a free kick as Anthony Forde, who was booked, checked his man in a dangerous position. Heavily involved Gladwin sent the ball into the box and it was met by Turnbull who powered a header home past Richard O'Donnell.

The Saddlers sought to get back into the lead but Hiwula couldn't connect with the ball as the home side looked to clear.

Tom Bradshaw did well to win a corner from Williams as Jordy Hiwula was replaced by Jordan Cook. The flag kick was poor and easily cleared, allowing Town to counter.

The Saddlers had enough bodies back to quell the danger but Town remained on the ball before Cook partially cleared.

The Saddlers allowed Town to break as Gladwin continued to be a threat. The visitors were saved as a soft free kick was awarded.

As we entered four minutes of added time Jordan Cook came in from the left and forced a good save from the 'keeper. The resulting corner was played in by Forde and partially cleared by Ricketts.

Michael Cain then gifted possession with a poor, blocked shot. Anthony Forde tracked back well to defend.

The Saddlers broke down the other end as Bradshaw, who was fed by Sawyers, forced another corner, which was ultimately cleared.

After a brief spell of play, the game was brought to an end by referee Iain Williamson.
