Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Tom said; "They are a very good team. We came in with a game plan to get the ball out wide and hit them in areas where they didn't have as much cover.
"But they scored an early goal which always changes plans. It put us on the back foot early doors and it was always going to be a struggle from there.
"When they took the lead it was always going to be tough. They are very good at keeping the ball and that's what they did.
"On another day, it falls nicely, you tap it in, it's 2-1 and the game is back on but it wasn't our day today. The ball didn't quite drop for us in the right areas and Bristol City were good opposition.
"I only had half-an-hour training session at the end of the week to see if I was ok. I'm very grateful to the gaffer for starting me and giving me an hour."
