On Sunday afternoon Walsall Football Club travelled to Wembley Stadium for the first time in the club's 127 year history to take on Bristol City in the Final of this season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy competition. Defender Ben Purkiss spoke to the press following the game and insisted that the occasion did not get to the Saddlers' side.

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Ben said; "Every time I've played here I've always enjoyed the occasion. I've always felt like it has brought out good qualities. I'm not sure we necessarily can blame the occasion.

"Against a good side for them to take the lead made it an uphill struggle for us. Again they came out in the second half and got a scrappy goal. When you are 2-0 down it made it a difficult task.

"If the one that hits the post goes in or Andy Taylor's shot hits the back of the net then it's a completely different game.

"I watch a lot of games when it goes 2-0 the game is still in the balance. The momentum is with you and we had a good backing.

"To be honest I thought we played some decent stuff at times. We got at that them but it was just that final ball, the final cross that let us down."
