Walsall will be back in cup action on Tuesday evening when they welcome League One side Stevenage to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium for an EFL Trophy - Southern Group B clash.THE SADDLERS
Walsall's search for a win came to an end on Saturday afternoon as they defeated near rivals Port Vale by two goals to nil in front of the Sky Sports camera's.
With the Valiants bringing over 1,200 fans all the way from Burslem, goals from James Connolly and Andrew Dallas saw the Saddlers briefly top the table as their visitors' slow start to the season continued.
Going into the game on the back of a rare win, opponents Exeter City becoming the fist team to lose to the Vale since they returned to League Two following a brief stay in League One, the visitors were unable to take advantage of first-half opportunities, before being dominated in the second forty-five.
The result, and more importantly, the performance should give the likely new-look Saddlers plenty to build upon when they welcome Stevenage to town on Tuesday.
Head Coach Lee Grant is likely to ring the changes on Matchday as some of his squad's fringe players get an opportunity to strut their stuff in a bid to snatch a place in the league line up.
THE OPPOSITION
Opponents Stevenage have enjoyed an average start to the new campaign. Playing nine games in all competitions, they've won three, drawn three, and lost three as they struggle to put a run of form together.
Their most recent game saw them lost one-nil to Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon as Alex Gilbert scored the only goal of the game to see the O's secure their first in of the league campaign.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
There have been just fifteen competitive meetings between the Saddlers and Boro, and it's all-square between the two sides as they have both tasted victory on four occasions.
There have also been six draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday, 26th November 2011 as the two sides met in a League One clash in which ended all square at nil-nil.

THE LAST TIME WE MET
The most recent between the Saddlers and Boro also took place in the EFL Trophy as the two sides met in a Round of 32 clash at Broadhall Way on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025.
After playing out a goalless first half, the visitors bagged the opening goal of the contest twelve minutes into the second-half when Carl Piergianni saw a header squeeze past Sam Hornby and into the back of the net.
Walsall levelled the score six minutes later when Rico Richards got on the end of a Jake Hollman ball to put the Saddlers back on level terms.
The Saddlers and Rico snagged their second goal of the game nine minutes later when the Boro defence failed to deal with a Walsall attack, allowing Richards to slam the ball home to take all three points.
