Walsall Sign Wycombe Wanderers Defender Declan Skura

The Saddlers have added to their backline options with this latest new arrival.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall have confirmed the signing of Wycombe Wanderers defender Declan Skura, who joins the Saddlers on a season-long loan from the Sky Bet League One side.

The 24-year-old, who is the Saddlers' eighth signing of the summer, is a product of both the Chelsea and Reading academy systems but would gain his first senior experience in non-league initially with Hanworth Villa before moving to Kingstonian.

After showing great promise over a sustained period, Skura’s performances would see him go on to earn himself a development squad contract with Wycombe Wanderers in February 2023 following a successful trial match against Woking.

Declan made his debut for the Chairboys in the EFL Trophy against Crystal Palace U21s in September 2023 and went on to feature against Stevenage as Wycombe topped their group before playing in their Round of 16 triumph against West Ham United U21s in a campaign which saw them go all the way to the final before suffering a 2-1 defeat at Wembley to Peterborough United.

Shortly after, the defender joined Ebbsfleet United on loan until the end of the season and made 17 appearances in the National League in what was a beneficial period for him.

2024/25 saw Skura feature 18 times in all competitions for the Chairboys, including a league debut as a substitute in League One against Blackpool, before another spell out on loan arrived in February this year at Huish Park with Yeovil Town.

Playing alongside fellow new Saddler in the form of Jed Ward, Skura made six appearances for the Glovers and scored in his penultimate match on loan against Tamworth before being recalled by his parent club and featuring in the final three games of the League One season, scoring against champions Lincoln City in Wycombe’s penultimate game of the season at the LNER Stadium.

Speaking via the club's official website, head coach Lee Grant is pleased to have secured Skura’s services for the season ahead and looks forward to seeing the defender develop in WS1.

Grant said: "I’m pleased to see Declan join us. We believe he’s a defender who displays some unique attributes and is driven to develop during his time with us.

"Declan will certainly add another layer to our defensive options, and we’d like to thank Wycombe for putting their faith and trust in us with one of their young talents – we’re looking forward to working with him in what we hope will be a positive season for all."
