Walsall boss Lee Grant has confirmed the injury status of two of the first-termers who sat out the Saddlers' goalless draw with Leamington on Saturday afternoon.Fielding a team made up of new arrivals, last season's remaining players, and academy prospects, the gaffer was able to take a look at several of his options as the Saddlers played in front of the public for the first time in the ongoing pre-season campaign.
There were two notable absentees, however, as midfielder Ronan Maher and summer signing James Connolly went unused, with Grant revealing the pair will be in action soon as the medical team continues to monitor their progress.
Speaking to Express & Star reporter George Bennett, Lee said: "Ronan has taken a knock to his elbow unfortunately, which we have to be careful with.
"That might take a week or so to get him back into contact situations, but other than that, it’s all good."
The gaffer then went on to talk about recent arrival Connolly, where he confirmed the defender will be slowly introduced into the action in a bid to avoid overworking. He continued, "As ever in pre-season, it’s always let’s be safe before we try and overextend people.
"We’ve done that with James. People are tight, have had a tough week, or come in later than others.
"Then we have to be mindful of that, so today wasn’t the right time for with that."
