As the Saddlers edge closer to this weekend's pre-season meeting with Leamington, head coach Lee Grant has spoken to club journalists and offered an update on his summer transfer plans.Walsall have already added the likes of Andy Dallas, Lewis Simper, Sven Sprangler and James Connolly on a permanent basis, along with the loan arrival of Coventry City midfielder Isaac Moore, but Grant is keen to continue to recruit new faces ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking via the club's official website, Lee said: "We have five in the door. Just simple maths tells you that we’ve still got a fair way to go
"If we’ve released 13 or 14 players and bought five in, then we’ve still got a good chunk of our squad to fill.
"We’ve got a long way to go still. So the next steps we need more players in, which is the simple answer to that question.
"Ideally, as head coach, I want to have two players competing for every spot and to have really viable options in each position.
"We’re building our way towards that. We have to be mindful that we don’t have every resource going that we can just be really scattergun in our approach.
"We have to be really targeted and creative in some areas, of course, and we have to work incredibly hard."
Walsall will begin the new campaign with an away trip to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup before taking on Gillingham on the opening day of the League Two season.
