Walsall captain Jamille Matt has taken to social media to thank everyone at the club for their love and support as he prepares to move on at the end of June.Named among a number of players who will be free to find employment elsewhere later in the summer, Jamille admitted he had realised a childhood dream to captain the club.
Moving to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium from Forest Green Rovers in January 2023, Jamille went on to make 140 first-team appearances, scoring 23 goals.
Posted on Instagram, he said: "What a journey the last 3 and a half years have been at Walsall F.C.
"To captain and represent this club was the realisation of a childhood dream & to do so on 140 occasions is something I will take with me forever.
"Whenever I pulled on the shirt, it was always with 100% commitment and with a responsibility to represent not just myself, but the town too.
"There have been highs, setbacks, unforgettable moments and lessons that will stay with me long after football.
"Ultimately, we didn’t achieve what we set out to over the last couple of years, and this will remain one of my biggest regrets in football.
"To the staff, players and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for your support and for all the hard work that not everyone gets to see.
"Met so many great people during my time here ❤️. And to the fans… thank you for every message, every conversation and every bit of support, home and away.
