'Nobody is Downing Tools' - Darren Byfield Determined to Keep Working

Here's how interim head coach Darren Byfield saw the Saddlers' clash with the Robins.
Interim Walsall boss Darren Byfield insisted his team will keep battling after seeing them suffer their first defeat since he took the helm away to Swindon Town on Easter Monday.

Visiting the Nigel Eady County Ground, the Saddlers took the lead via Jamie Jellis – who had been on the pitch for just three minutes – but the Saddlers were dragged back onto level terms by Fletcher Hollman before Aaron Drinan scored in second-half stoppage time.

The loss sees the Saddlers very much on the outside looking in as they now sit 12th in the table, some six points behind 7th-placed Chesterfield, although Byfield is keen for his team to keep pushing.

Speaking to the assembled media, Darren said, "It's still mathematically possible. You keep going until it’s not, but I’m not going to sugarcoat it or anything.

"We know today was a game that we wanted to win and had to win, but we have a duty to see these games out and make sure we’re on it.

"It’s challenging because we know we’re running out of games. I knew it would be tough to just jump straight into the play-offs.

"But what I won’t do is think it’s all over. I won’t because we’ve got to keep going and hope that things can happen and change.

"The odds are against us, but we have a duty to bring those performances, that desire and that attitude so that our fans see that nobody is downing tools."
