Youth Alliance: Morecambe 1 Walsall 5

The young Saddlers returned to action on Saturday morning.
Walsall Under-18s returned to EFL Youth Alliance — North action on Saturday morning as they made their way to the North West and took on Morecambe U18s.

Fresh on the back of their Youth Alliance Cup, Quarter Final victory over Oldham Athletic, the young Saddlers have been in good form as of late, and were looking to continue their steady progress up the table.

WALSALL TEAM
Barber: Harris, Roberts, Pawlowski, Oliver, Straw, Oben, Bunn, Makavore, Etheridge, Thomas
Substitutes: Hamilton-Wright; Teesdale, Nash, Hunt

With the match getting underway at 11.00am, Walsall wasted no time in taking the game to their opponents, as defender Stan Straw continued his strong spell of form by opening the scoring with less than a minute played.

Not content with just one goal, skipper Straw went on to double his and the young Saddlers' tally before the midway point of the first half, as the home side's heads began to fall.

The third goal of the half also went the way of the Saddlers when Archie Bunn scored with a superb strike just two minutes after Straw's second, an incredible spell for the visitors.

Midfielder Dylan Thomas got his name on the scoresheet within six minutes of the break, Morecambe simply unable to cope with the weight of the Walsall attack.

With minds drifting to the half-time team talk, Walsall went on to grab their fifth and final goal of the opening forty-five, Paul Makavore the man to send the ball into the back of the net.

With their manager no doubt reading them the riot act, the home side did improve in the second forty-five, as they grabbed a goal back twenty minutes into the half, although it proved to be no more than a consolation as the Saddlers secured all three points.
