Sadler Disappointed as Walsall Suffer Stalemate Against Struggling Shrews

Here's what Mat Sadler had to say following the Saddlers' meeting with the Shrews.
Walsall boss Mat Sadler admitted his side failed to make the most of their chances as struggling Shrewsbury Town took a point from their visit to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.

Opening the scoring via Daniel Kanu's eleventh all-competition goal of the season, the Saddlers were dragged back onto level terms in the second half when Tom Anderson scored via a deflected effort.

Speaking to Express & Star reporter George Bennett, Sadler said: "Going one-nil up so early, it felt like we were going to go on and get that second goal.

"That first half was maybe the time to take the game away from them because we were on the front-foot.

"Maybe we then leave ourselves open to a stuffy goal when we won't get a second, and that was the way it turned out.

"That was the disappointment. We didn't take our chances when they came in that first half, and I think they were happy to just be 1-0 down at the break.

"We needed to be braver, and although we started well in the second half, they also came out with impetus.

"There was an uptake in the tempo of the game in the second half for both sides, but I thought our reaction was great in terms of going after the game once they equalised."
