Sadler Pleased as 'Resilient' Walsall Return to Winning Ways

Mat Sadler spoke to members of the media shortly after the Saddlers' League Two meeting with Newport County.
Walsall boss Mat Sadler sought to praise his team as the retunred to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Newport County on Saturday afternoon at Rodney Parade.

Producing an immediate reaction to Kai Whitmore's opener, Walsall's first goal arrived after seventeen minutes of the game played, as Daniel Kanu notched his sixth goal of the season.

The Saddlers went on to take and subsequently extend a lead as the first-half progressed, when Ryan Finnigan scored his first and second league goals for the club.

Gerard Garner put the Exiles back to within a goal of their opponents, but Rico Browne scored his first career goal to ensure the points went back to the Black Country.

Speaking to members of the media, including Express & Star reporter George Bennett, Sadler started by praising midfielder Ryan Finnigan, he said: "Ryan came in and hasn't played the last couple of weeks. He looked very strong.

I was delighted to see him get a couple of goals, he deserved them.

"We want to see him crash the box even more because he has got a great finishing ability."

Going on to discuss the game as a whole, Sadler continued: "We had a chance after twenty seconds and a really good one as well.

"I was delighted with how many chances we created. To go one-nil down and then comeback so quickly was particularly pleasing because it really snuffed out some of the noise here.

"We were resilient when we needed to be to get back into the game.

WI was a bit disappointed that we conceded just before the end of the first half, but we really controlled things at the start of the second half.

"I thought we did that miles better in the second half, and the guys that finished the game really added to the group.

"We were without Lewis Warrington last week, he was on the bench today. Charlie did brilliantly in the pivot."
