Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler has been named the Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month for September.Sadler's men collected 10 points in an unbeaten September that saw us rise to the top of the Sky Bet League Two table.
While the boss has been recognised with an individual accolade, he was keen to stress the collective effort that enabled the team to have such a strong September.
Speaking after collecting his trophy, Sadler said: “I’m very proud that, as a group, we’ve done okay in the month, but I’m always going to say that everything we do is together – staff, players, everyone and by staff I mean the work that all of our staff does that goes unnoticed.
"For example, groundsmen who ask me how I want the grass to be cut or which water to be put on, and they don’t need to do that, but they do because we’ve got amazing people at this football club that all pull in the same direction.
"Those things mean something.
"The staff on the football side work incredibly hard on bits within the games but creating that environment, culture and atmosphere that guys want to turn up in and the energy that the players show so, it’s 100 per cent a collective and everyone pulling together so that’s what I’m proud about."
Danny Wilson, who chairs the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month judging panel, added said: "To keep the belief after a disappointing end to last season’s campaign shows how experience is key.
"Mat has cemented the trust in his team as they sit proudly at the top of League Two with an unbeaten September, returning 10 points from 4 games."
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit, and former Saddler, Don Goodman said: "It can be very difficult to motivate a team to go again after going so close the season before, but Mat Sadler deserves immense credit for rallying his side who yet again look like one of the teams to beat in League Two.
"Walsall collected 10 points from four unbeaten games in September and fully merit their position at the top of the table."
Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies said: "Mat Sadler’s Walsall came through September unbeaten with three wins and a draw, climbing to the top of League Two in the process.
"Sadler deserves huge credit for reshaping the squad so effectively after last season’s disappointment."
The Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
