Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall's 2025/6 League Two campaign rolls on this weekend with the in-form Saddlers set to take on Accrington Stanley at the Crown Ground.

MATCH INFORMATION

The match will take place at the Crown Ground, currently known as Wham Stadium, on Saturday, 27th September 2025.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3.00pm, with Team News expected to be confirmed at 1.45pm.

NEWS & VIEWS

Walsall have been in tremendous form over the last few weeks. Undefeated in five League Games, they'll arrive at the Crown Ground on the back of a 4-2 triumph over Tranmere Rovers.

With the likes of Evan Weir and Daniel Kanu hitting their stride, the team seems to have learned from their mistakes of last season, and have given the faithful plenty to get behind, even at this early stage of the campaign.

After already taking on most of the teams in the top reaches of the table, the Saddlers should be full of confidence heading into their upcoming run of games, although current form shouldn't be taken for granted as there is plenty of room for improvement.

With many of the Saddlers' upcoming opposition sitting in the bottom half of the table, we're hoping to see the team build upon it recent run and head closer to the winter with an even bigger momentum.

WALSALL TEAM NEWS

Midfielder Jamie Jellis could return to the fold after missing last weekend's win over Tranmere Rovers through injury.

Meanwhile, defenders Mason Hancock, Harry Williams, and Elicha Ahui remain sidelined with long-term injuries.

THE OPPOSITION

After failing to win any of their opening six league games, Stanley have gone on to win two on the bounce, and will be keen to build upon that momentum as they welcome the Saddlers to the Crown Ground.

Reaching the match on the back of an encouraging win over the heavily-backed Milton Keynes Dons, Stanley face another tough task as Walsall have enjoyed a strong start to the season.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Walsall and the current incarnation of Accrington Stanley, which was formed in October 1968, have met on just nine previous occasions, and it's Stanley that hold a head-to-head advantage.

Winning five and losing three (1 draw), Accrington lost the first meeting between the two sides. Taking place at Fraser Eagle Stadium on Saturday, 21st October 2006, goals from Hector Sam and Mark Wright either side of an Ian Craney effort were enough to secure the win for the Saddlers.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting took place in front of 8,131 fans at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday, 26th April 2025 and saw Stanley take all three points with a 1-0 win.

Despite having much of the ball and creating most of the goal scoring opportunities, Walsall would concede the first goal some twelve minutes before half-time when Ben Woods put sent a looping volley over Tommy Simkin and into the back of the net.

The Saddlers' hopes of changing the game were damaged by second-half substitute Connor Barrett seeing red after bring on the field of play for a matter of minutes.
