Walsall Sign Lewis Warrington on Two-Year Deal

The Saddlers have secured the services of a young midfielder as their squad rebuild continues.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall have confirmed the signing of former Leyton Orient midfielder Lewis Warrington, who has signed a two-year contract at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.

22-year-old Warrington began his career with Premier League side Everton, who he joined at the age of six, where he rose through the ranks, making appearances across various age groups.

On top of matches in the Vertu Trophy for Everton’s Under 21s, he also made two senior appearances for the Toffees, with the first coming away at Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup in 2022 before he made his Premier League debut in May 2024 against Sheffield United.

Warrington enjoyed numerous loan spells while he was at Goodison Park. The first came at Tranmere Rovers during the second half of the 2021-22 season, where he scored once in 17 outings.

He spent the 2022-23 season in Sky Bet League One with Fleetwood and played 44 times in the third tier.

Warrington’s performance in League One saw him then progress with a loan move to the Championship at Plymouth Argyle where he spent the first half of the 2023-24 season.

After leaving Everton in the summer of 2024, he moved down to London to join Leyton Orient. He spent the second half of last season on loan in Sky Bet League Two with Salford City, scoring once in 16 games for the Ammies.

Speaking via the club's official website, Head Coach Mat Sadler admitted he is pleased to add more competition in midfield, he said: "Lewis has got a really good pedigree.

"He’s played a hell of a lot of games for a 22-year-old, most of them in the division above and some in the one above that.

"We wanted it to be permanent, we could have signed him on loan a few weeks back but we were trying as hard as we could to make it a permanent.

"I’m delighted for Lewis to come in, he adds real quality to the squad in that midfield area and I’m really looking forward to working with him."
