Pre-Match News & Views

Well, we've reached the final weekend of the Saddlers' 2020/21 League Two campaign, and it's fair to say it has been nothing short of a disaster.

Lengthy winless spells coupled with a plethora of individual errors will see the current crop etch themselves into the history books after guiding the team to their worst finish in over a hundred years.

Contested under two managers, current Port Vale boss Darrell Clarke and resident Head Coach Brian Dutton, the team will undergo many changes over the summer and we can only hope that the 2021/22 season will see the team at least attempt to right some of the wrongs which have occurred over the course of the season.

Taking on tenth-placed Carlisle United, the Saddlers will be looking to end the season with both a positive performance and a win as they really need to give the fans something to cheer before the curtain comes down at around 5.00pm on Saturday afternoon.

Head to Head

Walsall and Carlisle United have met on sixty previous occasions and it's the Saddlers who hold an overall win/ loss lead having secured victory on twenty-three occasions compared to the Cumbrians' nineteen.

There have also been eighteen draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began at Brunton Park on Saturday, 7th November 1931 as the two sides met in a Division Three (North) clash which Carlisle won by four goals to nil.

Man in the Middle

The EFL has confirmed that Marc Edwards, who is based in Tyne and Wear, will be the man in the middle, whilst David Avent and Alan Clayton have been named assistant referees. Peter Gooch will act as Fourth Official.
