STAY INtertoto Cup: Walsall Knocked Out at the Quarter Final Stage

Walsall's journey in the STAY INtertoto cup has come to an end as Elijah Adebayo's cyber Saddlers were defeated by Jonny Williams' Charlton Athletic over two legs on Thursday afternoon.
After securing safe passage through the group stage with victories over Blackburn Rovers, Crewe Alexandra and Finn Harps Elijah was able to continue his fine spell of form, earning an aggregate win over Sligo Rovers - the Saddlers winning 5-3 over two games - in the last sixteen.

Elijah went on to secure a spot in the Quarter Final after defeating Ben Wilmot's Swansea City - winning 5-3 on aggregate - before being drawn against the cyber Addicks for Thursday afternoon's clash.

The first-leg of the Quarter Final clash was a high-scoring affair with Chuks Aneke (11'), opening the scoring for Williams' side.

Thankfully for the Saddlers, Elijah was able to bounce back and struck twice to take the lead before the break, with Caolan Lavery (28') and Wes McDonald (35'). finding the back of the net.

Charlton hit back early in the second-half via Macauley Bonne (50') before Wes McDonald (65') put the Saddlers back into the lead only for Bonne (84') to level the score six minutes before full time.

The second-leg saw more goals scored as Charlton took a two-goal first half lead via Macauley Bonne (7') & (39'). Adebayo's Saddlers didn't see much of the ball in the first forty-five as Jonny Williams dominated proceedings.

Williams extended his side's lead with eight minutes of the second-half remaining - Lyle Taylor (82') the man to score - with the Addicks reaching the Semi-Final with an aggregate score of 6-3.
