Luke Pearce Talks Games, Goals and Skipping School

Young Saddlers striker Luke Pearce has spoken ahead of Walsall Under-18s upcoming Youth Alliance clash with Morecambe and admitted he's been delighted with the progress he has made so far this season.
The 15-year-old has achieved several milestones already this season, including becoming a regular feature for Miguel Llera's Under-18s, making appearances for the Development team, and even being named on the bench for recent EFL Trophy clashes.

Luke, who has joined some of his peers in training with Darrell Clarke's first-team, was also part of the Development team which took on and defeated Rotherham United in mid-week, with the highly-rated prospect netting one of the Saddlers' two goals.

The teenager was delighted to make his mark in the reserves with his goal and feels playing alongside first-team players in those games is helping him to improve his game as he looks to take advantage of all that is offered to him.

Speaking via the club's official website, Luke said; "It was really good to score for the Under 23s at 15 years-old, it’s just the best feeling – there’s nothing more I could wish for.

"I think it’s improved me as a player playing with older players. They’re experienced and I’m learning from them, they’re teaching me so it’s improving me as a player all round."

Pearce went on to praise Academy boss Miguel Llera for helping his progress with the ex-Sheffield Wednesday defender has been making time to do extra work with him, including during school hours.

Luke continued; "I think Miguel’s helped me a lot. He’s come in and has got me starting for the Youth Team and obviously I’ve been proving myself in there and because I’m in on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, he gets me in off school, he’s been working with me one-to-one after sessions, giving me extras so he’s improving me as an all-round player so he’s helped a lot.

"I’m just aiming for anything and to go as far as I can go. I don’t see any limits so I’m just playing my best and hoping for chances."
