Walsall Senior Cup: Chasetown 1 Walsall 1 (2-3 Pens)

Walsall's development were back in Walsall Senior Cup action on Tuesday evening as they took on Chasetown in the Second Round of the competition.
The Saddlers recieved a bye in the First Round of this season's tournament, which first ran in 1945/46, and were hoping to kick-off their WSC campaign with a win.

Opponents Chasetown, who currently ply their trade in the BetVictor Northern Premier League - South East Division, weren't among the teams to secure a bye and took on Paget Rangers in the First Round.

Scott Dundas' side were able to overcome their opponents by one-goal-to-nil as James O'Reilly slotted home mid-way through the second-half to book their spot against the Saddlers.

Chasetown XI: Pond; Hayward, M.O'Reilly, Beddows, J.O'Reilly, Whieldon, Reid, Langston, Winter, Kirton, Cater

Substitutes: Riley-Stewart, Cocks, Curtis, J.Brown, K.Brown
Walsall XI: Jackson; Coogan, Miccio, S.Perry, K.Roberts, J.Perry, Willis, Moss, Kouhyar, Candlin, McSkeane

The home side started the game well and, after going close when he got on the end of Levi Reid's cross, Jack Langston went on to put his side into the lead with nineteen minutes in the clock as he crashed the ball home with a superb free-kick.

The Saddlers huffed and puffed for much of the second-half and, despite entering a much-improved performance, looked to be heading out of the competition without scoring a single goal.

However, all was not lost as the Reds remained calm and were ultimately able to beat Scholars stopper Curtis Pond with just three-minutes of normal time remaining as Danny Coogan slotted home, sending the to a penalty shoot-out.

Despite a slow start to the spot-kicks the Saddlers were able to overcome their opponents as they booked a place in the Third Round where they will take on Bilston Town.
