Darrell Clarke: "We Have to Keep Building"

Following the Saddlers' welcome win over Crawley Town, Walsall manager Darrell Clarke spoke to the press and welcomed his teams' patient display as they came back from a goal behind to take all three points.
The Saddlers fell behind when Crawley midfielder Panutche Camara pounced upon some poor defending after twenty-seven minutes of play but were able to keep calm and went on to take three well-deserved points.

The Reds' first goal came via Josh Gordon, with the former Leicester City prospect netting his ninth goal of the season, before winger Wes McDonald twisted and turned his markers and unleashed a long-range strike to secure the win.

Clarke, who handed a debut to winger Jack Nolan in the second-half, admitted he was pleased to see his side mount a comeback, a feat they'd yet to accomplish heading into the clash.

Speaking to the assembled media, Darrell said; "I thought first half we played particularly well to be honest. We've probably had thirty-five minutes of the first half and they've had ten minutes.

"They scored and we missed a couple opportunities. The second half was a little bit dull and we didn't move the ball quick enough at times. But then we took opportunity from Josh and then we're on the front foot."

The manager then went on to both tease and praise Wes McDonald with the Mansfield-born boss agreeing that Wes always poses a threat to the opposition before insisting his team deserved the win.

Darrell continued; "It's a great cross by Wes to win it. I was having a laugh with the lads after saying 'great cross Wes, well done.' Wes can be a match winner, we know the quality he possesses.

"He's done that on a regular basis for us. He's dangerous when he gets the ball at his feet, it was a real great strike. I thought we deserved the win. I'm pretty honest in the assessment and I thought we edged the game.

"Like most League Two games at the minute there's not a lot in it. We take massive positives that it's twenty-one points in eleven games now, that's top three form. We have to keep building on that and working away."
