Josh Gordon Confident He Can Get Back Among the Goals

Walsall striker Josh Gordon has spoken to the press ahead of this weekend's League Two clash with Bradford City and insisted is confident he will soon be back among the goals as he looks to fire the team back up the table.
The recently rebuilt Saddlers have endured a poor start to their 2019/20 campaign, scoring just once in their last six outings, and winning just one game all season.

That lack of goals has put the spotlight on strikers with Gordon, Elijah Adebayo, and Rory Gaffney who are yet to open their accounts this season, with Caolan Lavery netting three times in seven all-competition outings.

But 24-year-old Gordon, who scored nine times on forty-five outings after joining the Saddlers from Leicester City last summer, insists he remains full of confidence and is adamant the goals will soon begin to flow.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Josh said; "Even the top strikers in the world have little ruts. It’s just finding the right way to handle it so you can get out of it.

"It can be difficult to keep your confidence but as long as you believe in your own ability and have a positive attitude, you will get out of it. I don’t want to put pressure on myself because I know the goals will come.

"They did last season. It’s just a case of finding that momentum – when you have got that, they come."

Despite their scoring struggle, the Saddlers have been much-improved at the back with the team having already kept four clean sheets so far this season.

And Gordon, who is one of just a couple of players remaining from last season's squad, believes that solidity means they can now focus more on creating chances and scoring goals.

The Stoke-on-Trent born striker continued; "It’s been a bit slow start for us but there have still been positives. Defensively we have been solid, especially compared to last season.

"And from that we can now start looking forward. With have struggled with creativity a little bit – it’s not just the strikers, it is the team collectively. But now we can focus on that creativity and when that’s nailed on we’ll be there.

"We have lacked quality a little bit. But it will come and then we will be sound."
