The Saddlers face Crawley in their first cup outing of the season at Banks’s Stadium this evening as they look to continue their positive start to the campaign, which has seen them secure a win and a draw in their two league outings.
The manager, who hasn't made many changes to his starting line-up so far this season, suggested that there could a couple of changes as he looks to blood some of his squad's fringe players but was still keen to stress the importance of tonight’s match.
Speaking via the club's official website, Darrell said; "It’s a cup competition and we want to do well in the cups. They are a good source of revenue and every bit we get into this football club helps so we will take them seriously.
"We may freshen one or two things up because we have got a big load now. We have got to be careful with one or two because we are still bedding them in.
"Some players are still catching up on fitness levels but we are looking forward to it. I’ll say it now, I don’t think we’re going to win the cup but we’ll have a good go at getting as far as we can in it."
Clarke has been pleased with how things have gone for the Saddlers so far this season. He’s happy with how the lads are gelling and is keen build on the team’s early season momentum ahead of a busy run of games.
Darrell continued; "I think we’ve built a decent enough squad on a very reasonable budget. There’s money in the pot for a rainy day as well.
"If you look where we’ve come as a club in such a short space of time, I think it’s been really positive. The lads in there are gelling nicely but we want to keep getting better and the demands never go away from me.
"We have got a little bit of momentum now, we are unbeaten in two, so let’s take it into the next game and see where we go. As long as players are learning and being professional every single day, I’ll be a happy man."
