Darrell Clarke: "It’s a Tough Start But a Good Start"

Following the news that the Saddlers will be taking on Northampton Town on the opening day of the season, Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken to club journalists and admitted his side are in for a tough test as they get their campaign underway.
Clarke’s men will visit the PTS Academy Stadium, formerly known as Sixfields, on Saturday, 3rd August, as they look to kick-off their League Two campaign in style by taking three points back to the Banks's.

And the boss, who will be taking charge of his side in the league for the first time since replacing Dean Keates at the helm, is anticipating a good test against Keith Curle's Cobblers.

Speaking via the club's official website, Darrell said; "It’s always an interesting day when the fixtures come out and you have a good look through. We start with Northampton away and it’s a good game for ourselves.

"I know Keith Curle and Colin West, the assistant manager, very well. One of my ex-players at Rovers, Chris Lines, has gone there so there’ll be familiar faces. It’s a tough start but a good start."

Darrell then went on to talk about the Saddlers first home game of the season, a clash with Mark Cooper's Forest Green Rovers, which will see the two sides meet for the very first time.

The gaffer continued; "We’ve then got Forest Green and I know Coops very well too. They’re a good footballing team and Coops has produced some great teams and done a great job there. Hopefully, we’ll get a good gate for our first home game."
