The struggling Saddlers, who will be taking on Southend United on Good Friday afternoon, are in severe danger of spending at least a season in League Two following a run of six consecutive defeats, which has seen them fall behind several of their relegation rivals.
Reports in the Daily Star suggest that the Saddlers are keen to secure the services of former Macclesfield Town and Shrewsbury Town boss John Askey, with the current Port Vale boss seen as a potential saviour following a successful spell at Vale Park.
Askey, who led Macclesfield to the National League title last season, will be out of contract at the end of the season so, unless he pens a new deal, wouldn't command a fee, something which will no doubt come as welcome news to the club.
John, who led Vale to pick up fourteen points from twelve outings - helping them to move away from the relegation dogfight - is among a lengthy list of managers said to be on the club's radar, and can be backed with odds of 14/1 with Sky Bet.
