James O'Connor Takes Charge as Kidderminster Sack Mark Yates

Former Walsall defender James O'Connor has today been placed in temporary charge of Vanarama National League North side Kidderminster Harriers following the sacking of former boss, Mark Yates.
34-year-old O'Connor, who made over 120 appearances in a Saddlers shirt, joined Harriers on a free transfer in October 2017 and has gone on to form part of the Aggborough side's coaching set-up alongside former Saddlers target, Russ Penn.

A statement, released via Kidderminster's official website, confirms that Jimmy and Russ will take charge of the Harriers'final two games of the season - against Southport and Guiseley - while the club begins the task of finding a new permanent manager.

Mark Yates' last match saw them defeated by Leamington, who had Walsall prospect Dylan Parker on the bench, the Brakes winning the match by two-goals-to-one on Good Friday.

Harriers can confirm that Jimmy O’Connor is to take charge of the team for the season’s remaining two matches.

Chairman Colin Gordon met with Mark Yates on Sunday to discuss matters. At that time it was felt that, as Mark would no longer be considered for the position of Manager long-term, it would serve no benefit to either party to continue with the current arrangement.

We wish Mark well for the future and thank him for his efforts over the last few months.

O’Connor will be assisted by Russ Penn for the games against Southport and Guiselely, while the club continues the process of identifying the next Manager.
