Central League Cup: Burton Albion 1 Walsall 2

John Ward's Walsall Development side were in action on Wednesday afternoon as they travelled to St. George's Park and faced Burton Albion in the South Central Group of the Central League Cup.
The Saddlers, who are also drawn in the group alongside Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury Town, are not competing in the Central League this season but will have no shortage of action as they look to make progress in the Birmingham, Staffordshire, and Walsall Senior Cups along with the odd behind closed doors friendly.

Walsall's home tie against Shrewsbury will take place at Ray Hall Lane on Tuesday, 30th October, whilst Ward’s side will face Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, 11th December, with the match taking place at the home of Yate Town.

Today's match, which kicked-off at 1.00pm, saw both managers select fairly young sides as the fist-team schedule leaves little room for rotation, especially as the match arrives less than twenty-four hours after several League One games.

It was the Saddlers who ultimately opened their group campaign with a win as goals from winger Maziar Kouhyar and central defender Dan Vann allowed them to defeat the Brewers and take all three points.
