We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Hamilton Academical, Leeds United, Leicester City and Walsall winger George Meek, who has died at the age of 84.

George Jackson Meek was born in Glasgow on Thursday, 15th February 1934. He began his footballing career with Junior side Thorniewood United before turning professional in 1951 with Hamilton Academical.

After just one season with The Accies, George joined Leeds United in 1952. After eight years and over two-hundred and fifty appearances, which included a season-long loan spell with Walsall, George joined Leicester City in 1960.

His time with the Foxes would be short as George once again joined the Saddlers in 1961, this time staying with the Fellows Park side for four seasons and well over one-hundred appearances.

George's time with the Saddlers ended in 1965 at which point he went on to play in local non-league football. We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to George's family, friends and fans during this sad time.
