The Saddlers were back in action on Saturday afternoon as they made the trip to The Valley where they would take on Charlton Athletic, with both sides looking to build upon victories they had picked up last weekend.

The match, which was manager Jon Whitney's 99th at the helm, would see on-loan West Brom striker Tyler Roberts pull on a Saddlers shirt for the final time.

The game's opening goal arrived shortly after the half-hour mark as Joe Aribo volleyed Mark Marshall's left-wing cross into the bottom corner of Liam Roberts' goal. A sweet strike to open the scoring.

Walsall didn't allow the goal to get them down and would get back on level terms ten minutes later as the ever-present Erhun Oztumer, who was released by the Addicks for being too short, headed a Luke Leahy cross off the post into the back of the net. The Wizard of Oz scoring his first ever header for the Saddlers.

The Second-half was a disappointing one for the Saddlers as the home side would secure two goals and go on to take all three points.

Even more disappointing for the Saddlers was the manner of both goals as first Kory Roberts then Liam Kinsella would prod the ball into the back of the net when attempting to dispossess an attacker. Saddlers stopper Liam Roberts unable to react in time as the Addicks took the spoils.
