Whitney - Walsall Must Thrive on FA Cup Pressure

Jon Whitney has spoken ahead of his side's Emirates FA Cup - First Round clash with Newport County, and admitted that the pressure is on as his side look to secure a place in the Second Round.
Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to club journalists ahead of Saturday's Emirates FA Cup - First Round clash with Newport County, and admitted that his side are expected to get a result, but may have to 'battle for every inch of the pitch'if they are to secure safe passage to the Second Round.

Jon, who was speaking via the club's official website, Saddlers.co.uk, said; "The expectancy is all on us because we are the higher-division team. We accept that. But at the end of the day we have to really relish and enjoy that responsibility. All you can do is go and try. We have to go there and battle for every inch on that pitch. If we do that hopefully we will get a performance and a result as well.

"The game plan is to go there, win and still be in the cup. We need to be in the draw for that Second Round. We have to cope with the pressure. We have had some really solid performances in the last few games away from home. We will be looking to emulate that and hopefully add some quality in the final third."
