Young Walsall striker Mitchel Candlin, who recently put pen-to-paper on his first professional contract, has been invited to train with the England Under-18s as the squad prepare for their upcoming games against Brazil and South Africa.
Mitchel, who has been at England's main training base of St George's Park near Burton, is still available for Saturday's League One clash with Plymouth Argyle.
Steve Cooper’s side, technically classed as this season’s Under-18s despite Cooper taking charge of the Under-17s, face Brazil at Shrewsbury Town's Montgomery Waters Meadow on Friday, 1st September.
Saddlers boss Jon Whitney spoke to club journalists and congratulated the young attacker. Speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, the manager said; "It’s not a full call-up but Steve Cooper has been in contact about him. He reported to St George’s Park on Monday to train with England. For me, it’s great that he's going there and getting used to the set-up. He gets to put his England tracksuit on, which is fantastic for him and his family.
"They watched him against Shrewsbury Town and they liked him. They want him to go and be introduced in the set-up. He will be training all week with that and I might have to bring him back for Plymouth because of international call-ups. Things can change, if they get a few injuries, the Brazil game is on Friday and he may come into the fold."
