Etheridge Saves a Penalty as the Azkals Overcome Kyrgyzstan

Walsall goalkeeper Neil Etheridge was the star as the Philippines defeated Kyrgyzstan in their latest international friendly.

London-born Etheridge, who joined the Saddlers on a free transfer in the summer of 2015, produced a string of fine saves, including one from a late penalty, to secure the win for the Azkals.

The Philippines took the lead late in the first half as debutant Kevin Ingreso sent a left-footed effort in to the top corner.

Misagh Bahadoran doubled the Philippines' lead seven minutes into the second half, his header proving too tough for the man in the Kyrgyzstan goal.

The White Falcons halved the deficit just after the hour mark as Vitalij Lux sent a low effort past Etheridge.

Kyrgyzstan were awarded a penalty with just a couple of minutes of normal time remaining as second-half substitute Simon Greatwich felled his man inside the area.

Goalscorer Lux stepped up to take the spot kick but was thwarted by an alert Etheridge, who not only saved the initial effort, but also the rebound as the Azkals went on to secure the win.
