Walsall's Interim Head Coach Jon Whitney has spoken to club journalists ahead of Sunday afternoon's season-ending Sky Bet League 1 clash with near-rivals Pot Vale, and has insisted that his team must concentrate on themselves before worrying about events elsewhere.

Speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, Jon said; “We’ve said for the last few weeks that if we can take it to the last game, then that will mean we’ve got a bit of consistency and we’re winning games.

“We’ve created something quite special in the last couple of years. And this year, we’ve had momentum from very early on from beating Brighton and Nottingham Forest. We also played Chelsea when Mourinho spoke highly of us.

“It’s been a really good year when you look back and it has led to this opportunity where we can create a really incredible story.

“We’ve also got another bite of the cherry. This Sunday, we’re going to make sure we just concentrate on ourselves. Port Vale is going to be really tough - they’ve only lost three home games – but we’ll see if we can get a bit of passion and desire into the team and we’ll see what happens.”
