Walsall XI | L.Roberts; K.Roberts, Smith, Cockerill-Mollett, Tonks, Sangha, Kouhyar, Wakefield, Murphy, Shorrock, Rowley

Substitutes | Jezeph; Vann, Owen, Pooni, Peters

Walsall started the game well and  took the lead after eight minutes of play as Levi Rowley lifted the ball over Maher in the Morecambe goal.

The visitors struggled to get the ball into the final third and had to wait until eighteen minutes of play until they saw an attempt on goal, Tom Cowley driving the ball wide of Liam Roberts' goal.

A few minutes after Tonks finished off a fine run by sending an effort wide of goal, on-loan Bournemouth midfielder Josh Wakefield saw a close-range effort diverted for a corner, which resulted in a Kory Roberts goal as he headed home from Shorrock's flag kick.

The Saddlers continued to dominate the game and saw efforts from Rowley and Shorrock, the latter of whom had several chances including an effort which struck the bar.

Shorrock would go on to extend Walsall's lead with twelve minutes of the half remaining as he headed home following a Maher save which looped up off his legs.

Walsall were again the better side as the second half got underway, and saw Levi Rowley have two goal-scoring opportunities, the first of which he lifted over the bar, the second struck the woodwork as Morecambe struggled to get close to the first-year pro.

With sixty-four minutes of the game gone Morecambe had an effort of their own as Morgan Homson-Smith had a shot blocked following a nice move to beat two Saddlers defenders.

Walsall continued to be the better side, and saw attempts by both Cockerill-Mollett and LFE Goal of the Month candidate Nathan Owen.

High-scoring Cameron Peters also had an effort on goal as he sent Shorrock's pass just wide of the post, the Saddlers good value for their three-goal lead.

With two-minutes of the game remaining, Jordon Sangha, who recently penned his first professional contract, saw an effort easily gathered.

A goalless second half but more fine play from the young Saddlers side, as the Development League campaign continues.
