Earlier today, Walsall Football Club's Reserves travelled North as they faced Wign Athletic Reserves in the latest Final Third Development League (West) fixture of the season.

Today's match was a swift return from the reverse fixture which took place towards the end of January, and saw the Saddlers win by a Reece Flanagan goal-to-nil.

The Saddlers' opening chance of today's game came through Jordan Cook, as the striker hit the foot of the post following a flowing move from the men in Red.

Wigan went close a few minutes later as O'Brien scuffed a shot wide of goal, some alert play from Cosgrove to pounce on a bid of sloppy Saddlers defending and find his teammate.

The Latics opened the scoring after thirteen minutes as Louis Robles guided an O'Brien cross into the back of the net, more good play from the home side.

The home side would double their lead after twenty-six minutes of play, as Robles slotted home from a Cosgrove right-wing cross, the striker finding plenty of room in dangerous places as the half continued.

Walsall grabbed a goal back with just over five minutes of the half remaining as Milan Lalkovic smashed the ball past goalkeeper Lee Nicholls from distance, a nice finish from the winger as he continues to push for a regular place in Sean O'Driscoll's first-team squad.

The Saddlers went close to levelling the scores early into the second-half, as Lalkovic tested Nicholls for a second time. The 'keeper was up to the task as he parried the shot and denied the Saddlers a goal.

Wigan almost extended their lead after the hour mark as O'Brien headed an Alex Lingard cross over the bar following a quick free kick.

Robles also had an opportunity to get his and Wigan's third as he was found by a Cosgrove pass, he saw his initial effort saved by Liam Robles and could only turn the rebound wide of goal.

Roberts was again alert to deny the Latics further goals as he saved from Flores and Cosgrove as the home side looked to extend their lead.

The Walsall 'keeper was soon called into action again as both Cosgrove and O'Brien were prevented from scoring, Roberts having a solid match despite conceding two first-half goals.
